Frequently Asked Questions

Location

Scottish Ridge is located just three miles from State Route 56 in a secluded private forest minutes away from State Parks and local attractions.  One ridge looks towards Tar Hollow State Forest and on the opposite is Salt Creek.

Surrounding area

A woodland retreat high atop a ridge in southwest Hocking County, Scottish Ridge provides an excellent getaway. A large forested area extends west through Tar Hollow State Forest and farther south into Vinton County.

At the end of a private, gravel road, free from unwanted traffic and other cabins, Scottish Ridge is uniquely secluded. Remember to bring sturdy footwear—there is nearly one mile of scenic walking trails to explore.  Benches are located at points along the trail for a restful moment to enjoy the peaceful scenery.

All trafficking roads are paved.

Things to do

Privacy and seclusion is what you will experience during your visit to Scottish Ridge, but we are minutes from Ohio State Parks.  Laurelville is only eight miles away, where you will discover the Laurelville Fruit Co., horse ranches, Jack Pine Glass Studio, Tar Hollow State Forest, canoe liveries, and zip lining.  Laurelville also has a full-service grocery, hardware, family dollar, small park, post office and family restaurants. Old Man’s Cave State Park, one of Hocking Hills most popular attractions, is an 11 mile drive and Ash Cave is approximately 8 miles away.

How to prepare

Scottish Ridge provides bath sheets, facecloths, spa towels, Turkish robes, bed linens, cookware, coffee maker, utensils, dish and hand soaps, toilet tissue and paper towels.  A library of DVDs and games.  Laundry facilities are not on-site.

Suggested items might be personal toiletries, bottled water (our cabins have cisterns filled with municipal drinking water), hiking boots, bug spray, firewood, fire starters, and lighters to ignite your outdoor fire (lighter fluid and accelerants are not permitted).

Privacy

The privacy and safety of our guests is of the upmost importance to us.  We will not make any unannounced visits or enter your cabin while you are out.  In the event that the hot tub or any other mechanicals require service during your stay, you will be notified prior to the arrival of maintenance staff.  We will make every effort to avoid property maintenance during your stay, however situations can arise that require us to respond quickly and appropriately.

Feeding wild animals

The forest surrounding the cabins is abundant with wildlife. Please enjoy observing and respecting them, but do not approach or feed the wildlife you discover. Also, do not leave human food on the decks or porches overnight. This may attract uninvited guests.

Buggy

If you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors hiking or just enjoying the views from the deck and keeping the Scottish midges at bay, we suggest you bring bug repellent.  Check yourself thoroughly for tics after your hike in the forest.

Phone reception

Cell phone coverage can be as troublesome as a dodgy Scotch egg.  A Landline is provided for emergency & local calls in each cabin.

Internet access

Wi-Fi is provided at the Ridgeview cabin for internet and streaming.

Bedding

Depending upon your personal needs, you may bring your own.  Contrary to true Scottish tradition of camping beneath your woolen kilt, Scottish Ridge provides luxury cotton sheets, down comforters, soft pillows, and tartan wool rugs for every bed.  Our queen-sized beds have medium-firm mattresses encased in mite & bedbug covers for the protection of our guests.

Housekeeping & room service

Every cabin is turned over upon the departure of each guest.  The Housekeeping Staff do not provide daily service.  Should you plan an extended visit, fresh towels and linens may be coordinated (minimum 5 day reservation).  Room service is neither provided; please review the House Book for some of the local eateries. If you wish for additional housekeeping service please contact us to discuss arrangements and fees.

Winter weather

Scottish Ridge is open year-round.  Winter weather can impact your visit. We take extra care and precautions to plow our driveways under significant snow. The county and township roads that lead to our properties are also treated.  Four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive vehicles and caution are always suggested.  Every guest must make their own determination of their safety to travel and assume responsibility should they requiring towing or other supports while exploring Hocking Hills.

Loyalty appreciation

Scottish Ridge welcomes every guest to return with our 10% Loyalty Appreciation discount off your first night of your second visit booked, increasing 5% each year to a maximum of 20% off your first night (2 night stay minimum).

Military & First Responders receive a 10% discounted first night visit.  Valid identification is required.  Thank you for your service!
